Straight Chaos is a chaos-engineering platform. When you run an experiment, an agent you have installed deliberately injects a real fault into the host it runs on. Depending on the experiment that can mean: added network latency, dropped or blackholed traffic, blocked DNS, burned CPU, exhausted memory, a filled disk, an injected syscall error, a frozen or killed process, transparent interception of a dependency's HTTP traffic, and - when you enable TLS termination - decryption of that traffic via a certificate authority you install in your own trust store.
Fault injection is destructive by design. An experiment can degrade or take down the targeted service and anything that depends on it, trigger alerts, fail in-flight requests, lose unsaved data, and cascade in ways you did not anticipate. Guardrails - duration limits, deadman teardown, steady-state auto-abort, the workspace kill switch, blast-radius caps, and allow-lists - reduce but do not eliminate this risk.
--simulate, expand blast radius gradually, and keep a way to stop and recover. The software is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Straight Chaos and its authors are not liable for any damage, downtime, data loss, or other harm arising from your use of the software or the faults it injects.
Before your workspace can launch experiments, an authorized member must accept this acknowledgment in the dashboard. That acceptance is recorded with its version in your workspace audit log. Continuing to use the platform after the terms change requires re-accepting the new version.
To use the hosted platform you create an account for a workspace. You must provide accurate information, keep your credentials and API tokens secure, and you are responsible for everything done under your account and by members you invite. You must be at least 16 and authorized to bind your organization to these terms. Tell us promptly at hello@straightchaos.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
You agree not to:
Our Privacy Policy explains what data we collect and how we handle it. By using the platform you agree to that policy. In short: faults run on infrastructure you control, and the control plane stores your account, experiment results, and the activity metadata your agents report - not the contents of your agents' traffic.
You may stop using the platform and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access that violates these terms, creates risk or legal exposure, or is used to harm others, where practical with notice. On termination your right to use the software ends; provisions on risk, warranty, liability, and payment survive.
We may update these terms as the product evolves; we'll revise the version date above and, for material changes, surface a notice in the app. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. (Alpha placeholder - the final governing-law and dispute terms are pending legal review.)
